Sotto in Cincinnati – A Date Night

Sotto is a gorgeous restaurant set in the basement of Bocca (which is beside the popular mexican restaurant Nada, all of which happen to be in the same restaurant group). Don’t blink or you’ll miss it as you walk by on East 6th street. Totally “off the rhine” but in a popular restaurant area of downtown Cincinnati located just down the way from the Arnoff Center for the arts and close to the eclectic 21c hotel.

This little entrance opens up into a darkly lit, oh-so-romantic, exposed brick, eclectic hideaway. I felt like I was walking into a secret.

The hostess seated us at a table near the adorable wine cellar, but I felt it was too close to where the waiters were gathered around so I asked for a more intimate table. She huffed at me but was able to accommodate as the restaurant was sparsely populated. I highly recommend a reservation! I had one but I should have requested a quiet table out of the way. We were sat in a very dark corner as you can see from my photos. You get what you ask for, I guess. However, the exposed brick on all sides of us was absolutely gorgeous. I never get tired of old, exposed brick!

We started off with the “goat cheese & hazelnut honey bruschetta”. I am a total sucker for anything with goat cheese. It was divine.

I believe Sotto’s dinner menu changes periodically. Check their menu here for their current fare.

Sotto is such a neat, eclectic place. Not in the “wow that’s weird” kind of eclectic… but more of an unexpectedly romantic, antique, industrial way. Almost like an underground speakeasy of the past. I believe there is also a viewing window into their pasta kitchen (don’t quote me on that though because I could be thinking of another place, I need to go back to confirm this).

This beautiful restaurant is a perfect date night spot for all ages. I’m 30ish and I didn’t feel “too old” to be there. I highly recommend Sotto for your next dinner date! Gorgeous decor, delicious bruschetta, great wine list!
