Arnold’s Bar Cincinnati – A Date Night
The oldest bar in Cincinnati, Arnold’s, opened in 1861. Arnold’s was converted to a cafe during prohibition and served bathtub Gin made in the second floor bathtub. With such a rich heritage I had to check it out!
I just love this menu. “But we’ve heard great things about you”! I ordered the “City Flea Martini – House-made Vanilla Bean and Blueberry infused Vodka with fresh lemonade”, it was every bit as delicious as it sounds. Arnold’s has an extensive bourbon collection for you aficionados.
We sat in their year round courtyard which has live music 6 nights a week (closed on Sunday). The place was packed and though we didn’t have a reservation we were sat quickly. There were people from all walks seated around us, I spotted an older couple with a walker, young hipsters, parents with kids… and us, 30something suburbanites out for date night. The music was loud, which isn’t something I enjoy. I like to be able to talk to my husband without shouting. They band took a few breaks in between songs so there were snippets of time to chat, I think if we go here again I’ll ask to be seated elsewhere. The music was good, but I wasn’t there to be entertained, I was there to EAT!
I ordered the blueberry fried chicken, which sounds so weird. I was dubious as to how it would turn out but when our server brought it out covered in that glorious brie sauce on a bed of mashed potatoes I knew I was going to be in heaven. I love brie. The blueberries were a sweet accompaniment to the smoky brie flavor, it was magic. I highly recommend it! My husband was not feeling as adventurous as I so he got the burger, he said it was enjoyable but I think he should have gone with a more exciting dish. They have a “Greek Spaghetti” that I am dying to try, it’s their signature dish. Arnold’s Menu has a lot of great items that sound so good, I’ll definitely be going back to try more.
Arnold’s bar in Cincinnati was a great date night choice. This place looks like a really fun time if you’re having multiple drinks in the bar area, I believe Arnold’s is on one of the routes for the pedal wagon. I’m dying to try it, I just need an overnight babysitter so I can REALLY enjoy myself!
For a view inside the main bar area, which hasn’t changed too much since 1861, and a look at Cincinnati’s new street car check out this mannequin challenge. So cool!
